We are excited to announce the launch of Dementia Conversations, our new Support Group event format. Our traditional support groups received high attendance levels and engagement during the past few years. The support groups remain to be an appropriate setting, where, together with like-minded families and caregivers, people share their personal struggles, fears, and concerns. To improve this critical service to our communities we plan to offer more tailored and structured programs this coming year. “It’s important for us to know that those attending our support groups are leaving with useful information that can bring about substantial improvements to the quality of their lives” says Ivan Oosthuizen, CEO of the Livewell Group.

Each Dementia Conversation will be themed and structured around a particular topic presented by industry professionals, all partnering with Livewell to share information and insightful content that is supportive and relevant to families. Dementia Conversations will aim to bring together much-needed support and to create a networking platform where one can share knowledge and meet people in similar circumstances.

Themes and topics will be announced in advance making it easy to decide if one would like to attend a particular conversation beforehand. The ideas and themes selected aim to be of practical value and not simply a transference of information, as this is often the frustration expressed by families.

We will host 3 events per month at various locations in the Western Cape starting with the first conversation on 30 January 2019 in Somerset West. Access to these events will remain free of charge and we encourage families and caregivers to attend as many events as they wish.
