“…just be a bit friendlier and have a bit more patience and then life is easier…”

Adrie Du Toit,

Quality of Life Leader

I have a very interesting job at Livewell. It involves keeping everyone happy. So for me the most important thing is making sure my residents are happy and comfortable, and also to keep the families happy. I have been at Livewell for over 5 years now and every day is a new challenge, every day our residents’ needs are different. That’s what makes it unique at Livewell – the variety. It’s never boring. It is a beautiful place where we work and I love coming in to work every day.

I used to be a bit of a softy when I started. Now I know I have more empathy and sympathy with the residents and their needs, putting their needs first, and not to think of yourself but rather about them. The residents become the most important people in your life. And beyond work you look at other people with passion. It doesn’t just happen at work. You carry what happens at work with you outside, because there are so many people that really need your help. A person can go through life with their eyes closed until you see what happens around you and then you realise – just be a bit friendlier and have a bit more patience and then life is easier for you and everyone around you.

Every person has their own needs, so if happiness in your life means completing a crossword puzzle, then that’s what I want you to do. Or if it is walking on the beach, then that’s what I want you to do. Every person that comes here is an individual and not one person’s needs are the same, and that is what’s important to me.
